Employment of the four mallets in the roll
I have realized three versions of this simple and brief example, drawn by the ending of on Equador popular piece for marimba.
In the A version the song is fingered so to roll and tie the sounds as more as possible. I have represent the keys with a rectangle on which there are the number of the mallets in the position they must be rolled. . In the B version, the song is played with two mallets, while in the C version the song is played with three mallets. (The mallets in parenthesis must be played on the same key).
In short it must be said that it is always advantageous to employ four mallets in the rolls also when two mallets should be enough.
- Foe example in the A version the principal advantage is the possibility of preparing one o two mallets to the following intervention, while the other ones roll. This allows to tie the sounds in a easier way and to get a greater fluidity in phrasing. B.F.
