Didactics of marimba

As to this topic I refer to my program for the teaching of marimba, which I realized thanks to my dedication and after many years of research study and experiments. All that has given the opportunity to realize a series of methods (I'm still preparing some of them) that reflect a precise programmed didactic syllabus. The experimentation of this methodology has given and still gives extraordinary result that make me hope in a future full of important results.

Here I don't analize all the details, but I show my didactic syllabus and a project for its circulation.

DIDACTIC SYLLABUS

MECHANISMS FOR MARIMBA

By learning these mechanisms the student learn how to handle the mallets and to gradually use them within a series of predetermined intervals (distance between the notes), and he learns basic knowledge such as: how to hit the bars, shifting of the mallets, accents, dynamic balance.

12 LESSON FOR MARIMBA

It is the approach to the instrument. In this phase the student learns important musical notions such as scales, polyphony, and he begins to learn how to read music by degrees.

THE TECHNIQUE OF THE MARIMBA - " 92 GRANDI ESERCIZI"

In this phase the student learns how to handle the mallets on the keys. Through the technique of the comparison, that is a logical and rational procedure, the student learns fundamental concepts such as: the tonalities, the phrasing, the balance of different strength in the mallets.

ARPEGGIOS FOR MARIMBA

At this level the student learns the whole keyboard, apart from its range. He learns how to control the dynamic balance, the shifting, the speed, and the harmonic knowledge.

SCALES FOR MARIMBA

This is a close examination which shows how the four mallets can really perform scales of all genres and different rhythms.

OPUS 1 and OPUS 2

At this point reding music is the most important element. Readings can be organized in a trio and in a quintet. If you study in a continous way, you will develope your visual attention and the identification of the notes.

MARIMBA ANTHOLOGY 1 (not completed yet)

It is a collection of transcribed and adapted pieces for marimba. They may be very useful so I suggest you to read them.

STUDIES FOR MARIMBA (not finished yet)

It is a collection of my unpublished compositions, where I used a lot of the technical solutions described in the methods I described above.

THE TECHNIQUE OF MARIMBA " THE ROLL "

Here you'll find the procedures which show the priorities with which the rolls are realized. A special attention is given to the indipendent rolls.

The material described above in about 1000 pages, is devoted to a future project of a school of marimba reserved to those who will have particular qualifications. - If you have a marimba with which you can practice, if you have an independent grasp of the mallets and if you feel like studyng seriously, you can contact me, and, while waiting for the publication of the texts, I can give you (free) suitable exercises.
